Business Coaching – One Man and His Business Coach
There are many objectives a business coach may be tasked with but perhaps at the end of each objective, the overriding desired results are improvement and growth. Growth on many different levels for the individual receiving the business coaching and ultimately growth and improvement for the business the individual is either a part of or in charge of.
For a working relationship to be successful, a business coach naturally needs to work very closely and trustingly with his or her clients.
Business coaching has become an ever increasing essential tool for those in business seeking to take their game to the next level although there are those who may take the idea of a business coach a little too far.
Following are a series of scenarios where it could be suggested that the business coach/client relationship has become a little confused!
- A random businessman is on holiday with his family and enjoying a day out at the seaside with his wife and kids. After devouring delicious ice creams, and having a relaxing walk along the pier, some time on the beach seems like a good way to spend a few hours relaxing in the sun. The children clamour for dad to help them build sandcastles with their new buckets and spades. Once dad has got involved though, he can't shake off something his business coach has drilled into him, business growth. The sandcastle building takes on a new and competitive edge and dad's castle get's bigger and bigger and more elaborate. Each time he sits back to admire his handy work, he has to return, discontent, to build more and more. By the time he's finished, the beach is deserted, his wife and kids left hours ago and the (admittedly impressive) sandcastle covers most of the beach!
- The next morning, after receiving a dressing down from his wife for his castle building exploits, the businessman faces a clothing conundrum. A day by the pool promises a lazy day in the sun if only the next hurdle can be overcome. Laid out on the bed are 17 pairs of swimming shorts in various styles and colours. Wife and kids have already claimed their sun loungers by the pool and dad is under pressure to spend some quality time with them but which shorts should he wear? After an hour of head scratching and trying each pair on several times, a decisive decision is no closer. In a panic he calls his business coach on the phone and explains the problem. After being calmed and reassured, a simple choice is made and businessman finally joins his increasingly disgruntled family at the pool in time for lunch.
